Absence of Women’s Health Minister Sends Wrong Signal Following Holyrood Elections

Following the Holyrood elections, we are watching the Scottish Parliament take shape and are disappointed to note the absence of a women’s health minister.

Dr Sinead Cook, chair of the College of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare’s Scotland committee commented:

‘This isn’t about individuals but about priorities. At a time when we are finally seeing progress on women’s health, removing a dedicated minister risks sending the wrong signal. Women’s health is too often overlooked, and without evident leadership there is a real risk it will be once again deprioritised within an already stretched healthcare system.'

In May 2026, the data for all abortions carried out in Scotland in 2025 was released (Termination of pregnancy statistics).
